FWI New York Summer Fashion Experiences are for you!

Designed to introduce our younger audience to the glamour and energy of the fashion industry, FWI Summer experiences will immerse you into the world of fashion through a feature-packed 2-week itinerary of visits, talks, workshops, experiences, and more.

Applicant Eligibility

FWI summer experiences are socially inclusive and designed for applicants aged between 13 and 17.

Applicants should be able to travel to and stay in New York for 2 weeks from July 11th to 24th.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a passion and strong interest in the fashion industry, be comfortable participating in a telephone interview once their application has been received, and be able to provide written consent to participate from a parent or guardian, if their application is accepted.

  • Weller Tower

    With singles, doubles and triples, this is the tallest tower in St. George Towers. It connects to the Studio Tower through a hallway, and all towers through a lobby that maintains the historic feel and original details from its past as a famed hotel.

Housing and Meal Plan

A full housing package is included. Students will stay in an NYU campus dorm facility, located in Midtown Manhattan, steps away from the excitement of New York City. The facility features double rooms with your own workspace, air conditioning and WiFi. There is also a social lounge. Breakfast and dinner are included daily, either in the dorm facilities, or at one of the many local eateries that students will visit as part of their social itineraries.

PLEASE NOTE: Lunches are not included and should be budgeted for separately.

Post-Arrival Orientation & Support

Arriving into a new city can be exciting but also daunting. Our city-based local counsellors accompany students throughout their summer experiences, managing their itineraries, welcoming students upon arrival at the airport, and accompanying them back to the airport for their departures*, guiding their visits and experiences, and providing support, guardianship and pastoral care for the full 2 weeks.

PLEASE NOTE: Airport transfers are included in the experience fees, but are subject to students arriving and departing within designated times. Personalised transfers can be organised for students arriving or departing outside of these hours. Additional fees will apply.

The FWI Summer Experience 'Fashionista' Welcome Pack

Your welcome pack includes everything you need to settle quickly into your new city, along with a few surprises! What's Included – Fashion Experiences

FWI Summer Experiences incorporate a range of in-person partner visits, workshops, and talks, delivered by leading industry professionals. Each element of the experience will introduce you to a different area of the industry, helping you build a wide understanding of how the industry works.

Below, you can find details of each of the major 9 fashion elements of the program.

Designers Studio

Participate in a guided visit to a fashion designers studio, and gain an overview of how designers conceptualise their designs, using techniques such as sewing, patternmaking, and cutting. Take part in interactive activities with a specific focus on fashion design and production.

Public Relations Agency

Ever wondered what a PR Agency actually does? Here's your chance to find out. Discover the magic of PR and story-telling for Fashion Week. Learn from a member of the Human Resources team how to access the fashion industry and the importance of doing internships to enter the industry.

Styling Workshop

Love styling? Do you want to learn about the latest trends? Meet with a leading fashion stylist and learn about how to spot trends, style clients and what it takes to stay at the top of the styling world.

Fashion House

Interested in the business side of the fashion industry? In this visit to the head office of a leading fashion house, you will enjoy a guided tour of the office, meet the team, and take part in interactive activities with a specific focus on sales and marketing.

Fashion Showroom

Representing multiple brands and designers, showrooms are the places where buyers go to find new lines and products. During this visit, you will gain an insight into how showrooms work, how they curate brands, and take part in interactive activities focused on buying and merchandising.

Model Management

Ready for your close-up? This is your opportunity to learn how model agencies work. Top professionals will guide you through the different agency departments - explaining what they do, and the tasks performed in each of them. Take part in interactive activities focusing on modelling, styling, and photography.

Hair & Make-Up

Participate in a hands-on workshop to learn cool tips and techniques for hair and make-up with a professional make-up artist.

Clothing Manufacturer

Learn how clothing manufacturers work during this visit to their facilities, and Participate in activities to learn more about apparel production, pattern making, and grading.

Fashion Museum

Participate in a guided visit to an entertaining and educational fashion museum with inspiring exhibitions to advance your knowledge and imagination.

Fashion College Visit

Participate in an admissions information session with the London College of Fashion student admissions team. Designed to help you learn about the various pathways to building a successful career in the fashion industry. The session will help you understand how to apply your talents to meet your aspirations.

FWI Summer Experiences also incorporate a variety of group trips and visits to well-known NY city attractions and neighbourhoods, giving you the opportunity to really get to know your new city!

Your New York City itinerary will include the following highlights:

Central Park

Take a stroll through Central Park, the most visited city park in the United States as well as one of the most filmed locations in the world.

Chinatown

Taste the greatest assortment of Chinese delicacies you can imagine. Find the best Dim sum spots; try specialty soups, and devour dumplings while exploring the many cultural and ethnic multiplicities Chinatown has to offer.

Times Square

Explore the liveliest street juncture of New York! Known as “The Crossroads of the World”, keep your eyes peeled for street performers, ABC’s Time Square Studios, Planet Hollywood, MTV headquarters and much more!

The High Line

A public park built on a historic freight rail line raised above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side, featuring expansive views of the Hudson River, art displays, open-air café’s, as well as numerous culinary delights. Distinct to The High Line are beautiful gardens and overlooks with water features lining the pathway of the park.

Top of the Rock

See the most breathtaking view of New York City from an observation deck 70 floors high! At the top of Rockefeller Center are three observation decks with unbelievable 360-degree views. Experience a glass ceiling sky shuttle lift you 850 feet into the heavens overlooking all of the city’s attractions and the beautiful skyline.


Chelsea

Originally home to warehouses and non-operational railroads, Chelsea has transformed into a contemporary art district and rising hotspot of New York City, with highlights such as the Chelsea market (an indoor marketplace and mecca for gourmet food lovers), and Chelsea Piers (a sports and entertainment complex on the waterfront, featuring a roller rink, ice rink, and bowling alley).

Boat Ride aboard the BEAST

Experience a thrilling speedboat ride that zooms down the Hudson River at speeds up to 45 mph. Zoom within 100 feet of the Statue of Liberty to a rockin’ soundtrack and an awesome and fun interactive captain and crew.

Times Square and Midtown

A melting pot of travel and culture, attractions include the Broadway Theater District, Times Square, The Times Warner Center (a luxury shopping district), Museum of Modern Art, Bryant Park, and Madison Square Garden, a famous arena (home to notable events such as championship boxing, Rangers & Knicks games and music concerts).

September 11 Memorial

Visit the beautifully designed museum and monument made to commemorate the past as well as inspire hope for the future. The site of Ground Zero draws millions of people and is a must-see to pay tribute when travelling to New York.


Greenwich Village

One of the oldest and trendiest districts of New York, “the village” as it is referred to, has retained much of its charm and historic character over the years. At the center is Washington Square Park, serving as an unofficial quad for NYU students and a popular hang-out spot.

South Street Seaport

This active waterfront location nestled between the Brooklyn Bridge and the canyons of Wall Street is the gateway to Lower Manhattan’s rich maritime history and cultural diversity. Experience exciting entertainment, unique shopping and dining, cultural activities, and much more.

SoHo

A bustling neighbourhood of Lower Manhattan with art galleries, exclusive boutiques, chic hotels, and stylish restaurants, SoHo is a hub for retail therapy, with a variety of luxury trademark clothing, designers, and trendy bars and restaurants.

Brooklyn Flea Market

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Brooklyn, The New York Times called Smorgasburg “The Woodstock of Eating.”Smorgasburg & Brooklyn Flea Market features foods, beverages, and treats from 100+ vendors from New York City and across the region.

Brooklyn

The second largest city in the United States, Brooklyn is home to many of New York’s top attractions including The Brooklyn Bridge, Botanic Garden in Prospect Park, Flea market, Historical Society, and Coney Island.
